Misinterpretation

(Translated by Otgonsuren.J)

xuralIn the second travel day we went to the meeting at the comission of Tibet Mongolian affairs in Taiwan. We met at this commission with person Mongolian named, Baatar Khai, who is one of the Mongolians in Taiwan within the welcoming people.

President of Comission of Tibet Mongolian affairs, Su-Do Kao, young man came from the  next room and greets us and changed the name card. There was a “cabinet minister” word in the name card. Within the representatives of Mongolia included five person headed by general manager of Ulaanbaatar city, Ch.Bat  and four person headed by O.Bum-Yalagch, the head of "Green coalition" NGO’s . The meeting was held in Chinese language so we faced to hope to translator.

The translation was not clear and in few words. After the brief official meeting Mr. Su-Do Kao spoke in English and it resulted better understandable situation. Everywhere in the world people can understand each other in English good. So English knowledge is first criteria for the travelers. Many of our team travelled to Taiwan do not know Chinese language but almost all understand in English.

There are no person who can not speak in Engish in Taiwan. Even black market dealers speak good in English. So it can say no language difficulties in our travel. Except the few meetings almost all official meeting held in English-Chinese language.

But 2 meeting held in Chinese language our team critised the translator skill. There are one or two person, who can speak little in Chinese language within us. As they said our translator interpreted "one tonn" instead of "thousand tonn rubbish". Also she does not know official term and even know bad Mongolian language. For example, she does not know district and sub-district and not understand which unity is bigger and it creates difficulties in translation. She is the student, graduated the Humanity University of Mongolia and study in language school in Taiwan.

The translation work is hard. Especially it is responsible task to interpret the official meeting between two countries. Finally,  it is good to study foreign language. But it is important to know mother language not bad. Maybe, it will big lesson to her our advice, critique and joke during the many days translation. Future generation need to study in abroad at the same time need to study mother language good.
