Reporter of Nomadgreen: I heard that the Mongolian National Green Coalition is protesting the Governmental resolution that provided the legal environment to give license in the “State specially protected a
rea”. Could you clarify it?
Bum-Yalagch: In the law of the “state specially protected area” said that it is prohibited to make an exploration at the aim of the geology in the natural complex. But 86th resolution was made from the Government by breaking the law. In this resolution it was indicated that the right will be given to make 5 special explorations.
Reporter of Nomadgreen: What we can understand by the “politicized” on the issue of protecting the nature? Some people may see that Mongolian National Green Coalition is becoming politicized.
Bum-Yalagch: Our Coalition and other NGOs are not politicized. It is clearly that Government is becoming politicized by breaking the law. By passing the resolution with the breaking the Mongolian law, Government becomes the organization to become politicized in accordance with the International standard. The ruling parties brainwash citizens by giving promises in making a lot of profit from the mining sector in order to cover their expenses on the Parliament election. Government should have plans to get over a crisis and to improve citizens live, but not it protects the interests of the party and tries to exert on giving the rights to make a gold exploration in the protected area. Not only had the law enforcing organ made a politicized decision, but this decision brings a negative effect on the Mongolian national security.
Therefore we have to protest in the frame of the law and lead a political struggle. Firstly our coalition insists on invalidating the resolution. Secondly, we and NGOs protested and demanded orally and by document to the Minister of Environment and tourism and other relevant departments. We invited the authorities and hold a discussion with the “Today” newspaper’s ecology club.

Bum-Yalagch: The Government didn’t invalidate the resolution by the demand of the Mongolian National Green Coalition. The information from the countryside is still arriving. After passing this resolution, illegal gold diggers are already started to work in this area. The activities of the illegal gold diggers must be stooped immediately. We are still protesting with the frame of the law, but we hadn’t any choice but to take an extralegal demonstration in order to invalidate this resolution.
